“Speeches change the world, eloquence leads to success.” Learning to express ourselves better is a crucial step towards future success. Language is an art. As US President Lincoln once said, “Eloquence is a necessity for social interaction, a necessity for career success, and a necessity for survival. A person who cannot speak well is undoubtedly a failure.”
Zhuhai Yinghua Cambridge International School has always attached great importance to cultivating students' abilities, especially their ability to express themselves and their critical thinking skills. Therefore, on October 23, our school invited Mr. Tan Wenhao, a council member of the China Speech and Eloquence Association and the founding president of the Zhuhai Speech and Eloquence Association, to give a series of lectures to our students on the theme of "Critical Thinking, Speech, and Eloquence." This was the first lecture in the series.

First, Mr. Tan Wenhao, with passionate energy and a strong voice, quickly engaged the enthusiasm of all the students.
Mr. Tan Wenhao asked the students to imagine they were participating in a Cambridge University admissions interview, needing to introduce themselves, their school, and their reasons for wanting to be admitted. The students in the audience were eager to participate.
Next, Mr. Tan Wenhao played some speech videos. After the videos, he repeatedly asked the students to point out the mistakes made by the speakers in the videos.
After the laughter, Mr. Tan Wenhao guided the students into deeper thinking: The person whose views are remembered by everyone is the winner . When your expression is not remembered by the world after it is finished, your expression is invalid. This allowed everyone to deeply understand the power of thinking and expression.
Then, Mr. Tan Wenhao again asked the students to imagine they were participating in a Cambridge University admissions interview, and encouraged them to use the speech knowledge they had just learned to persuade the admissions officer.
Finally, Mr. Tan Wenhao explained the essence of public speaking: "No matter what situation you are speaking in, what we say is not for ourselves, but for our audience, for our society."
He said to the students in the most sincere tone, The most important value of a speaker is to create value for the audience . In the process of speaking, everyone should combine their own theme and say words that are interesting and rewarding for the audience in order to move people's hearts.
The lecture ended with everyone wanting more, but Yinghua's cultivation of students' critical thinking, speech, and eloquence will continue.
Yinghua hopes that when students express themselves to the world, they will have clear thinking and elegant speech. This will make students shine at any moment.
