The First Lecture on Safety Education: Drug Prevention

In recent years, drugs have become a global public hazard faced by all mankind. Adolescents are the future of the country, the hope of the nation, and the reliance of families; therefore, drug prevention education for adolescents is crucial.

To strengthen drug prevention publicity and education at our school, allowing students to gain an in-depth understanding of drug prevention knowledge and the harm of drugs, and to improve their self-protection abilities, on the afternoon of July 3rd, Zhuhai Yinghua Cambridge International School invited Instructor Zhu Jiang from the Gaoxin District Criminal Investigation Detachment to conduct a drug prevention education lecture at our school, enhancing everyone's awareness of identifying, preventing, and resisting drugs.

I. Types of Drugs

Instructor Zhu Jiang first introduced the types of drugs. So-called drugs include two major categories ： One category is traditional drugs , such as opium, morphine, heroin, etc.; The other category is new types of drugs , such as methamphetamine and ecstasy.

Traditional drugs mainly originate from opium poppies, cannabis, and coca.

The most important among new types of drugs are methamphetamine, ecstasy, ketamine, caffeine, etc.

II 、 The Harm of Drugs

For individuals , drug use harms personal physical and mental health . Because the nervous system, cardiovascular system, lungs, liver, intestines, and skin of drug users will be damaged. In addition, drug use distorts personality, causing self-destruction of one's future , engaging in self-harm, suicide, and even easily contracting infectious diseases such as AIDS.

For Families , Drug use will cause immense mental damage to family members, leading to bankruptcy , family breakdown, and harming future generations.

For Society , Drug use can induce theft, prostitution, fraud, robbery, murder, and other illegal and criminal activities , endangering public safety, affecting social stability, corrupting social morals, and destroying national spirit.

III 、 How to Prevent Drug Use

    To help children stay away from drugs, Instructor Zhu Jiang specifically educated children in this lecture from the aspects of methods to identify drug users, methods to identify drugs 、 measures to stay away from drugs .

How to Identify Drug Users Around You?

Drug users generally have the following characteristics:

Changes in appearance or physical condition . Such as repetitive, similar mechanical movements; sweating, talkativeness, unusual happiness; auditory hallucinations, visual hallucinations, delusions, incoherent speech; unsteady gait, slow reactions; dizziness, vomiting, etc.

Significant changes in personality or mood , such as suspicion, irritability, indifference to others.

Lack of discipline , unexcused absences from work or school, deterioration in work or study performance.

Increased bad associations , frequently associating with disreputable people.

Extreme need for money in large amounts , often using sweet talk or persistent nagging to borrow money from parents and relatives.

Some drug dealers, in order to deceive the public, constantly innovate the forms of drugs, making them look no different from ordinary items. Therefore, Yinghua hopes that through this lecture, children can master the skills of identifying drugs.

How to Stay Away from Drugs?

(1) Learn about drug prevention, and remember the “four things” 。

1. Remember what drugs are: "Drugs" refer to opium, heroin, methamphetamine (ice), morphine, cannabis, cocaine, and other narcotic drugs and psychotropic drugs that can cause addiction as stipulated by the state;

2. Remember that drug use is highly addictive and extremely difficult to quit;

3. Remember that drugs harm oneself, others, family, and country;

4. Remember that drug use is illegal, and drug trafficking is a crime.

(II) Never try it the first time Curiosity and adventurousness often become the breeding ground for drug abuse. You must improve your self-control and never try drugs. Never believe that "one puff is okay" or "one time won't get you addicted."

(III) Choose your friends carefully Surveys show that, Most drug users fall into the abyss of drugs under the influence of "friends" Therefore, to be free from drug harm for life, one must choose friends carefully, remain vigilant, and reject drugs.

(IV) Stay away from unhealthy entertainment venues Currently, some entertainment venues in society are poorly managed, with rampant illegal activities such as pornography, gambling, and drugs. Once you enter, you may find yourself unable to extricate yourself and fall into the abyss. Therefore, to stay clean, it is best to stay away from unhealthy entertainment venues.

At the end of the lecture, Officer Zhu Jiang reiterated the dangers of drug use and warned the children about the legal liabilities of drug use.

According to current Chinese law, Non-addicted serious offenders face the following upon apprehension by the Public Security Bureau:

1. Administrative detention for 5 days or a fine of 500 yuan;

2. Administrative detention for 15 days and a fine of 2000 yuan, and 3 years of community drug rehabilitation.

            Serious drug addicts face: ：

1. Sent to a public security/judicial compulsory isolation drug rehabilitation center for 2 years of compulsory isolation drug rehabilitation, and after the completion of the compulsory rehabilitation period, they need to undergo 3 years of community rehabilitation.

2. The state encourages drug addicts to quit drugs on their own. For those who voluntarily accept drug rehabilitation, the public security organs will not punish their original drug use behavior.

Young people are full of curiosity about the unknown world and may face various temptations and tests in their daily lives. Some seemingly insignificant things can become traps leading to drug use.

Therefore, Yinghua hopes that through this drug prevention education lecture, children's drug prevention awareness and psychological defense capabilities against drugs will be enhanced, and they will understand "stay away from drugs, cherish life".
