IGCSE/A-LEVEL British high school courses
A-Level, a British high school curriculum, is one of the most established high school education systems in the English-speaking world. It is recognized by tens of thousands of universities in over 160 countries and regions globally. The curriculum is divided into two stages: IGCSE and A-Level, both taught entirely in English.
IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is generally suitable for students aged 14-16. The program lasts two years, although some high-achieving students can complete it in one year. It offers over 70 subjects, with English and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, and other subjects as electives. Students can choose at least 5 suitable subjects based on their interests and goals. They will be assessed on their understanding and application of the chosen subjects through examinations. After completing the IGCSE exams and achieving satisfactory results, students can proceed to A-Level studies.
A-Level requires students to study 3 to 4 subjects concurrently and take corresponding subject examinations. The final examination results are considered an important factor in university admissions. Students can use their A-Level results to apply to undergraduate programs at universities not only in the UK but also in many other countries and regions, including the United States, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, and Macau.
Subjects offered in our IGCSE/A-Level program:
Compulsory Subjects: English, Mathematics, Chinese
Elective Subjects: Advanced Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Accounting, Computer Science, etc.
Examination Advantages: Multiple examination opportunities per year; examination period of 35-40 days; three examination sessions annually; choice of 3-4 subjects; grading system (A*, B, C, D, E, U)
IELTS Language Scores
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) scores serve as important proof of language proficiency for applying to overseas universities. The specific IELTS score requirements vary by university and program and can be found on the university's website. Generally, applying for undergraduate programs overseas requires a minimum overall band score of 6.0 or 6.5, with a minimum score in each skill. For UK G5 universities, an overall score of 7.0 or higher is usually required.
Therefore, the school encourages students to meet the language requirements early, allowing them to dedicate more time and energy to their compulsory and elective subjects. Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities such as public speaking, debating, poetry writing, specialized reading, research papers, English news writing, and video production to improve their English speaking and logical thinking skills, laying a solid foundation for the four language exams (reading, writing, listening, speaking).
