The international higher education intelligence organization QS has just released its 2026 Asia University Rankings, showcasing strong performances by Hong Kong institutions. Five Hong Kong universities have cracked the Asian top 10, with the University of Hong Kong surpassing Peking University to reclaim the No. 1 spot in Asia.

In this year's ranking, the University of Hong Kong climbed from second to first place, while the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology surged to sixth. The City University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong tied for seventh, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University successfully entered the top ten.
Hong Kong universities performed exceptionally well in the metrics of "Academic Reputation," "Employer Feedback," and "Internationalization." Notably, City University ranked first across Hong Kong in all eight indicators, while also topping Asia in three key internationalization metrics.

Mainland China leads with 395 universities on the list, followed by Peking University at No. 2, Fudan University at No. 5, and Tsinghua University at No. 9.
Singapore and South Korea’s universities remain strong, with Nanyang Technological University and the National University of Singapore tied for third place. Malaysia has emerged as one of the fastest-improving higher education systems.
